Kanchipuram, often referred to as the "City of Temples," boasts of numerous ancient and magnificent temples that hold immense religious, historical, and architectural significance. Here's a brief glimpse into some of the prominent temples in Kanchipuram that I got to visit:
1. Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple: Dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi, this temple is one of the most revered shrines in Kanchipuram. It features stunning Dravidian architecture and intricate sculptures, drawing devotees from far and wide.
2. Ekambareswarar Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the largest temples in Kanchipuram. It is renowned for its massive temple tower (gopuram) and the ancient mango tree believed to be over 3,500 years old.
3. Varadaraja Perumal Temple: Dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Varadaraja Perumal form, this temple is known for its imposing gopurams and beautiful sculptures. It is considered one of the Divya Desams, the 108 temples revered in the Vaishnavism tradition.
4. Kailasanathar Temple: This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the oldest structures in Kanchipuram and showcases remarkable Pallava architecture. It is adorned with intricate carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.
5.The Vaikunta Perumal Temple : This temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. The temple is constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture. Vishnu is worshipped as Vaikunta Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Anandavalli.
