My solo motorcycle off-road adventure across the Balkans continued from the city of Medugorje, Bosnia! It was already above +30 C early in the morning. I decided anyway to head towards the Trans Euro Trail!
The trail would actually go very close from Medugorje, through Mostar. But as the temps were so high, I didn't want to travel through the city. So I made my own routes further along the trail. After about 70 km I reached it. Immediately gravel and climb to a mountain plateau! I was just enjoying every second - extremely beautiful landscapes! Also the gravel roads were in perfect condition, so could just suck in the beauty of Bosnia.
Once the trail started to decline from the mountains, it got quite steep. As I couldn't keep enough speed, the engine started to run again at very high temps. It was around +32-34 C at that time. So even though I didn't use the rear brake much, I lost it halfway down. It is due to the fact that in the KTM 790 (and 890) Adventure R, the rear brake reservoir is located just above the engine and exhaust. So when engine runs hot, it boils the brake fluid in the reservoir.
The brake came back after a while of cooling under a shadow. But it is not comfortable to start riding downwards when you have lost confidence on the brakes. So took it very easy, with 1st and 2nd gear all the way down, using mainly only engine braking.
Ended up close to city of Foca, still in Bosnia side. Really nice hotel with parking garage, air conditioning and awesome restaurant!
Basically covered whole section 3 of Trans Euro Trail Bosnia! This was again truly an awesome day, exactly such riding and sceneries what I had dreamed of for a long time!
Now I had to decide whether to continue in Bosnia, or head towards Montenegro as I was basically at the border.
Stay tuned to see how the adventure continues!
