Another landmark of Krakow is the Wawel Royal Castle, towering the city like a fairytale coulisse. While its fortifications were built in the 6th century, the castle was built in the 14th century. Since then, the castle was the seat of Polish kings until the 17th century, when it was transferred to Warsaw. The Castle is linked with the old legend about the dragon called Smok Wawelski who threatened the city and was beaten by the brave prince Krakus. You may see the statue of the fire spewing dragon near the Castle.
