High winds blast through mountain towns, toppling trees, and plunging homes and businesses into darkness. On Wednesday, the winds caused major power outages in two Henderson County towns. Parts of west Hendersonville and Laurel Park went dark just after 9am Wednesday morning when a giant limb blew off a white pine tree on Hebron Road near Spring Street. It snapped the power pole like a toothpick and left part of it dangling over the road. Some of those lines carry power to the town of Laurel Park.A generator helped keep the town offices running but about sixty homes nearby lost power.Laurel Park is famous for its towering trees, but they can cause problems in high winds.Crews cleared three trees different trees that were blocking roads, just before noon, and managed to restore power just after 3pm.
