Riding a sportive requires careful pacing to ensure that you can sustain your effort over the whole course, leaving enough in the tank for the latter stages of the ride or final climbs. Handy not only for training, using a power meter for your cycling event will allow you to get the best out your own personal fitness.

GCN used ex professional rider Dan Lloyd to test our theory, using the Maratona dles Dolomites in Alta Badia. We take a closer look at the numbers to find the perfect pacing strategy specifically for Dan, taking his current FTP into account.
With a huge 4230m elevation to tackle at an average gradient of 7.9%, pacing is key to make sure that Dan has enough left in the tank for the final, most brutal climb. Matt and Dan talk us through their plan, showing how you can make your own perfect power strategy for your sportive.
