Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia.

Tigers are majestic species and revered in various cultures. They are also an endangered species and the number of tigers is consistently declining due to poaching, hunting and illegal trading as well as loss of habitat.
The celebration is done on 29th July every year as a reminder of the agreement signed by countries in the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia in 2010 to raise awareness about the decreasing tiger population globally. Also, the representatives declared that the tiger-populated countries would make efforts to almost double the tiger population by the year 2022.
Here are some interesting facts about the tigers:
1. No two tigers have the same stripes. Like our fingerprints, they have unique stripe patterns.
2. Tigers are mostly nocturnal hunters. And their night vision is 6x more powerful than ours.
3. An adult tiger can consume up to 88 pounds of meat in one meal.
4. Tigers can also mates with other big cats, for example, if a male Tiger mates with female Lion, the hybrid born animal is known as Tigon.
5. Tigers scratch trees and use their urine to mark their territories. Their urine smells strongly of buttered popcorn.
