Perast is a small town with a population of less than 400. People often call it the quietest town in Boka. The city was founded by the Illyrians, named after one of the local tribes - Pirusti.
Near Perast there are two islets: one is called Sveti Đorđe (St George) or Sveti Juraj and the other Gospa od Škrpjela (Our Lady of the Rocks), and each one has a beautiful chapel.
Gospa od Škrpjela is particularly interesting given that it is the only artificial island in the Adriatic, with an area of 3,030 m². According to the legend, the islet was built over the centuries by the hands of local seamen after they found the icon of Madonna with a Child on the rock in the sea. Today's church of Our Lady of the Rocks, after which the island is named, was built in 1630 by the Venetians and is one of the most important historical and cultural monuments of the Bay of Kotor.
Perast is attractive to tourists both in summer and winter. During the winter, Perast has more sunny hours than popular tourist places on the Azure coast.
