If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick camping site on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.
The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.
Keswick campsite is an organised campsite. The inclusion of a washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room is particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.
Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. With Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline. Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.
For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points. At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.
