Recently I did a lap time comparison between my 2020 KTM Freeride E-XC and 2020 KTM 300XCW Erzberg on a short loop. I started on the Erzberg 300 and did a 2:45.5 lap then jumped on the Freeride and did a 2:51 lap. Yes the Freeride was slower but much closer than I expected. With quick 0~30 mph acceleration the Freeride is a lot of fun to ride on the trails. The Freeride's smaller stature (like a 7/8 size dirt bike) along with a steeper head angle combine to give the Freeride a quick and agile response to steering inputs and it feels more agile than it's 245 lb weight. With no rear brake pedal or gears/shifting riding the Freeride is just throttle and brake inputs through the handlebars. It is actually pretty easy to adapt to coming off a regular dirt bike.
The 300XCW Erzberg is about as smooth as a dirtbike gets. The counterbalanced engine with almost no vibration combined with the linear power of the fuel injection gives the 300XCW Erzberg an electric smooth overall feel. Easy to see why KTM 300's are such a popular off road bike.
Riding the electric Freeride back to back with gas bikes really brings out some of the key motorcycle characteristics:
1. Stealth: quiet riding is a new experience.
2. Instant Torque: deceptively fast from 0~30 mph.
3. Agility: feels light in motion and changes directions quickly and easily.
I will be doing more lap time comparisons and back to back rides on the Freeride E-XC and other gas powered dirt bikes soon so subscribe to my channel for the latest ride reports. If you have any questions leave a comment below I'll do my best to answer.
Ride safe and have fun!
