At an elevation of 6956 feet and only 19 kms away from Darjeeling hill town, a tranquil hamlet known as Lepchajagat is tucked away among the thick rhododendron and oak tree forest. For anyone who enjoys the Himalaya, Lepchajagat might be a great weekend getaway.

The entire area is surrounded by forests full of pine, oak and rhododendrons. And along with the humbling nature, you will also get the majestic views of the Kanchenjunga ranges. Various Himalayan birds are found in these forests. The chirping of birds is one of the sounds that you will continuously hear in Lepchajagat.

PLACES TO VISIT NEAR LEPCHAJAGAT :

1. Jorpokhri - A small hamlet located over a hilltop at an altitude of 7400 feet, It is only 5 km from Lepchajagat.
2. Ghoom Monastery - Ghoom is only 10 km from Lepchajagat. This is one of the oldest monasteries in the Darjeeling area.
3. Pashupati Market - The well-known border market, Pashupati Market, is situated 15 kilometres from Lepchajagat at the India-Nepal border.
4. Maneybhanjan - Maneybhanjan is a quaint Himalayan hamlet and also the base camp for Sandakphu trek.
5. Mirik - It is another beautiful destination famous for the Mirik lake surrounded by the pine forests.

HOW TO REACH LEPCHAJAGAT?

The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP). The nearest airport is Bagdogra. Lepchajagat can be reached from NJP, Bagdogra or Siliguri by hiring a car. Alternatively, you can get a shared jeep from Siliguri or NJP to Ghoom. From Ghoom, you can take another shared jeep or hire a full car.

Lepchajagat is 18 km from Darjeeling and you can hire a car from Darjeeling Chowk Bazar Taxi Stand to Lepchajagat.
