If you are connecting copper pipe with a coupling, there are 2 types. A stop coupling and a no stop coupling. A stop coupling has a dimple or flange that stops pipe from going past halfway through the coupling. A no stop coupling allows you to slide the coupling over the pipe so another pipe can be butted up against another pipe section.
