📢 A recording of our virtual dialogue held on Thursday 29 October 2020 on the impact of #COVID19 on the US election and its democratic process.
Speakers:
- Nate Persily: James B. McClatchy Professor of Law at Stanford Law School
- Corinne Momal-Vanian: Executive Director of the Kofi Annan Foundation
As the world eagerly awaits the results of the United States presidential election, our Executive Director Corinne Momal-Vanian spoke with American election law expert Professor Nate Persily* about the impact of #COVID19 on the US election and its democratic process.
The conversation looks at how the pandemic has exacerbated already existing issues of misinformation, hate speech and cyber security. It calls for greater transparency from social media platforms, the set up of an industry association to develop standards on content moderation, and explores the likelihood of electoral reforms being made to the voting procedure post election.
Part of the Kofi Annan series of #KAFDialogues
* Professor Persily is also former Director of the Presidential Commission on Election Administration (PCEA), co-lead of the Healthy Elections Project, and member of the Kofi Annan Commission on Elections and Democracy in the Digital Age (#Kacedda)
