After Hunza, my second most favorite place from Nothern Pakistan are these beautiful Deosai planes. They lie in between Astore, Kharmang and Skardu districts in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The name 'Deosai' means 'the Shadow of the Giant'! "Deo" stands for 'Deva' or 'giant', and the word 'Sai' comes from the Urdu word 'Saya' which means 'Shadow'.
It was believed for centuries that this place is haunted by giants. And that's why it is called the "Lands of the Giants"
Situated at 4,114 metres (13,497 ft) above sea level, they are considered second highest plateaus in the world.
Experiencing camping at Deosai & waking up to a peaceful morning would be experience of a lifetime. But beware of the weird healthy mosquitoes that you will find there Don't forget to carry lots of mosquito repellant with you.
