The first Audi RS4 was launched in 2000 as a powerful Avant station wagon, equipped with a 2.7 liter V6 biturbo engine, producing 380 hp. The next model, the Audi RS4 B7 brought a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 engine with 420 hp, available in sedan, avant and cabriolet variants.

The RS4 B8, which came available exclusively as a station wagon, had a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 engine with 450 hp and a 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission. The next model, the RS4 B9 Avant, launched in 2017, is powered by a 2.9-liter biturbo V6 developed with Porsche, producing 450 hp and 600 Nm. Updated for 2020, the RS4 B9 comes with a 2.9-litre V6 biturbo engine, a petrol particulate filter and upgraded exterior and interior design, maintaining 450PS and 600Nm.

For 2023, Audi introduces the RS4 available with the Competition and Competition Plus packages, and the limited edition RS4 Avant 25 Years Edition, with only 250 units, has a 2.9-liter V6 biturbo engine, developing 470 hp and reaching 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.
