For many centuries, traditions and customs have been formed in Armenia, closely related to the ancient history of Christianity in this country. Open, good-natured, but at the same time very quick-tempered and temperamental, the Armenians are kind to their traditions, so even in the modern world they manage to celebrate all the sacred Christian holidays, including, of course, Christmas.
“Chragaluyts” is the name of Christmas Eve in Armenia, celebrated on January 5th. At this time, believers bring Christmas fire from churches to their homes. It symbolizes the light of the Star of Bethlehem, which showed the Magi the way to the baby Christ
Armenia is a family holiday that gathers relatives and friends around a richly laid festive table. Traditionally, fish is served, which has been a symbol of Christianity since ancient times. It is also customary to treat rice with water to symbolize humanity, and raisins to represent the elect, whom the Lord has chosen to continue His work.
You can often find such a dish on the tables as tolma or dolma. They also cook arisu, ailazan, vospnapur and many other delicacies.
The Armenian people are known for their hospitality and warmth. Sometimes tourists come specially to celebrate the Nativity of Christ in this sincere, homely atmosphere. People in Armenia keep and cherish their traditions, as they unite the whole people.
