The initial phases of divorce can be filled with anxiety about what papers each party must sign, whether should it be signed or just let the process run its course. So what if my ex refuses to sign divorce papers in our Michigan divorce case? If the other party is not signing any, it should not stop your efforts because your attorney always has the option to use a court-sanctioned workaround in these matters. The divorce documents are only being sent by the court as a courtesy. File it under the 7-day rule if they choose not to use that courtesy. Your attorney will be able to handle that. Nothing obligates you to sign, though. The seven-day rule will apply to it. If there is no legitimate reason to oppose, your ex shouldn't be raising objections. The divorce papers don't necessarily need to be signed by the other party.
