Today's the eighth day of my London Loop Challenge: to walk the entire loop in 10 nonconsecutive days, with a day or two in between to rest. After many weeks of research and planning, I decided to do 2-3 sections, averaging 25-30km of walking per 'London Loop Day'. I've wanted to do this for a while, but the only time I could complete this was during the summer break. So I've been eagerly waiting since early March to begin this challenge, and I'm almost at the end!
London Loop Day 8 consisted of me covering Sections 7-5 in reverse. I began my hike at Ewell Station and ended the day at Whyteleafe Train Station (just before Hamsey Green). The trail was signposted clearly with the London Loop markers and was easy to navigate. Sections 7-5 were incredibly scenic, and several times I wanted to come off the loop and explore other beautiful landscapes nearby. Section 7 was a straightforward journey between Ewell and Banstead Downs, following paths through woodland and forests. Section 6 from Banstead Downs to Coulsdon South was full of surprises. The highlight of this section was Oaks Park and Mayfield Lavender Farm.
Once I completed Section 6 at Coulsdon South, I then joined the nature trail at Farthing Downs and Happy Valley, which eventually led me to the end of Section 5 towards Hamsey Green. By now, I've already done just over 21km. So instead of finishing the last stretch of Section 5 (another 3km, and I would have had to walk back to Whyteleafe Station to get my train anyway), I took a short diversion and decided to complete my day of hiking at Whyteleafe Station. I aimed to walk that final stretch of Section 5 towards Hamsy Green as part of my next London Loop Day.
Throughout the day, the weather was sunny and warm yet ideal for a full day of walking. The hike wasn't too long, and it took me under 5hrs to complete the sections. I ended the walk right outside Whytelatfe Station, and my train heading towards London was only a few mins away. Overall, London Loop Day 8 was scenic and strangely surprising as I discovered quite a few new things. I'm looking forward to walking Sections 4-3 and exploring more of South London in the next few days.
