Phillip Sear plays his (slight) adaptation of a short (ca.1868) organ piece by the French composer and organist (Alphonse- Zoe-Charles) Renaud de Vilbac (1829–84)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Renaud de Vilbac went to the Paris Conservatoire at 13 and was a second prizewinner in the 1844 Prix de Rome. He is best known today as an arranger of operatic extracts for piano and harmonium, piano and violin and other combinations. However, he also wrote light operas and a few piano works. These include a major piano method published in 1873, which included a comprehensive set of studies for piano duet.
This piece was published in 'L'Athénée musical', a French religious music periodical, and at the time, de Vilbac was organist at the Église Saint-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile in Paris (he was the first organist following the church's opening in 1855, and was succeeded by the pianist Raoul Pugno in 1871). It was dedicated to the composer and Conservatoire professor,Eugene Gautier (1822–1878).
