Some say that the 17th century ended with the death of one man, and that man was Carlos II, the last king of the Spanish Habsburg line. He was so frail and weak, that people considered his survival beyond childhood a miracle. And as he grew weaker and weaker, Spain’s neighbors began to eye the Spanish throne like vultures circling a dying animal. But the ailing King Carlos II still had one last trick up his sleeve.

In this video, we will see what his last will was, and how it set the stage for the War of Spanish Succession that opened the 18th Century. We will also see how his widow, Maria Anna of Neuburg, planned for his inevitable death.
