Bodymaxx IsoWhey Nutritional Facts
As the name suggests, you should be getting a pretty lean product here. All quality isolate protein powders have very low amounts of carbs and fats and high amounts of protein.
Looking at the label on the back of the tub you will see that Iso Whey is not an exception to the rule. In a serving size of one scoop, which is 30g you get:
Essentially you are getting 84% protein content, which is great. Just for comparison, the nutritional facts for BMXX Iso Whey are the same as, or even slightly better, than some other high-end products such as Iso 100 by Dymatize, Platinum Iso Whey by MuscleTech and Iso HD by BPI Sports.
So overall, I am happy with the numbers I see in the Nutritional Facts.
Bodymaxx IsoWhey Ingredients profile
The first ingredient that we see on the ingredients profile is Whey Protein Isolate Matrix, which is comprised of whey protein isolate, hydrolyzed whey protein isolate, cross-flow & ultra filtered whey protein concentrate. This matrix is then followed by milk protein.
I have to say that this ingredients profile is quite unusual. Almost all Iso products contain just whey isolate and hydrolyzed protein, without whey concentrate or the slow-digesting milk protein. Also, milk protein is not in the matrix, meaning that the net weight of the matrix is more than the weight of the milk protein. However, you might be getting more milk protein than any of the other three types of protein. In my opinion this is a double edged sword.
People who want pure Whey Isolate or Hydrolysate might get mislead by the name of the product and the title under it – Iso Whey, Hydrolyzed Isowhey Formula. The product does contain the two types of protein, but some people might not be thrilled to get the additional whey concentrate and milk protein (which is about 80% casein and 20% whey).
I personally see this formula as superior to just standard whey isolate or Hydrolysate, as it provides 4 types of protein with different digestion speed. Research shows that a blend of quick, medium and slow-digesting types work better for fueling the muscles than consuming only quick digesting type of protein that is absorbed within minutes.
The rest of the ingredients are the standard ones for a more stable and delicious product.
Bodymaxx IsoWhey Taste and Mixability
Ok guys, so let’s throw a scoop in the blender bottle and check out the mixability and taste of BMXX Iso Whey.
As you can see this is not the typical isolate powder, which is usually very fine, almost like sand. This one is more powdery and easily goes into the air, which is typical for milk protein and casein powders. So my guess here is that you are getting a fair amount of milk protein in the product.
It only takes a few shakes in the blender bottle to have Iso Whey fully dissolved, so absolutely no issue here. The liquid is much thicker than most whey isolates, which usually look like and taste like flavoured water. So if you are not a huge fan of thick shakes, you might consider mixing a scoop with slightly more than the recommended 250 ml of water.
The flavour that I am reviewing is Delicious Creamy Taste Stracciatella, which tastes very similar to cookies and cream. However, instead of the cookie crumbs that you get in some products, you get chocolate bits here, which do bring up the taste slightly. If I have to compare to another product, I think it is very similar to MuscleTech Phase8, which in my opinion tasted amazing.
There is only one more flavour that Iso Whey comes in and that’s Chocolate Coconut. I am yet to try that one.
Bodymaxx IsoWhey The Bottom Line
So let’s go through the pricing of Iso Whey and then draw the bottom line and see whether it is a product worth buying.
Currently it comes only in a 2kg tub, which is priced at €65, which is around £50. If you are living in France or Germany it should be relatively easy for you to find the product. As for the UK, it will soon be available to stores on-line and offline.
The price point puts Iso Whey in the high-end category, next to the big names. While it may be hard for Bodymaxx Sportsnutrition to compete with the already well-established brands, I think Iso Whey is a decent competitor.
It is not the typical isolate protein, because of the addition of milk protein and whey concentrate that make the digestion speed of the product different and the shake thicker. So if you are looking for a light and quickly digesting pure whey isolate or Hydrolysate with no other types of protein, then Iso Whey might not be for you. However, if you want to try a more well-rounded type of protein with the same nutrition facts and great amino acid profile, but tasting better, then you should give Iso Whey a go.
