Aloha BrewTube:
In this episode of DJs BrewTube I review UpSlope Brewing Co. Christmas Ale. UpSlope Brewing Co. Christmas Ale a Winter Warmer that is built on the base of an English Old Ale style of beer that is released in late fall by Upslope and clocks in at, 8.2% ABV. This beer is described by UpSlope Brewing Co. described as follows:
"Just in time for the snow to pile up on the high peaks, Upslope Brewing Company releases its highly anticipated Christmas Ale on November 1, 2012. This Spiced Belgian-Style Dubbel is the fourth installment in their Limited Release Series and will be the brewery's second 16 oz can four pack. The recipe for this beer is based upon an old homebrew recipe of mine that I use to take to Christmas parties", says Matt Cutter, Upslope's Founder. "In 2009, the brewery adopted this as our Christmas Ale. It was always a spiced holiday ale but last year Alex Violette, Upslope's Head Brewer, decided to Belgianize this beer by fermenting it with Abbey Ale Yeast.
This beer pours ruby red with a thick off-white headstand that laces the glass with every sip. The aroma of the Upslope blend of holiday spices complements the dark fruit and spicy notes from the Abbey Ale Yeast. These notes then carry through to the flavor of this medium bodied ale. The distinctive holiday aroma, ruby red color and rich malt flavor make this ale perfect for spreading Christmas cheer. The gift of Upslope Christmas Ale will already be "pre-wrapped" on the shelf in a distinctive red ribbon-striped 16 oz can and available on a limited basis throughout Colorado during the holiday season.."
This description sounds quote pleasant. Let see if Upslope Christmas Ale lives up to the description. My written review follows:

UpSlope Brewing Co. Christmas Ale WRITTEN REVIEW:
A: UpSlope Brewing Co. Christmas Ale pours a deep brownish red color that verges on mahogany. After the pour, a quarter finger of off white head dissipates quickly to a ring. When swirled, the beer leaves behind some sticky glass lacing but plenty of alcohol legs.
S: Hello spices. Right up front, ginger and allspice are in your face followed by caramel, toffee and piney juniper berries. All of this is tied together with a lovely malty undertone that is typical of Old Ales. In the background there is some dark fruit flavor from the yeast that give one a sense that in time they will develop into a more prominent player.
T: Follows the nose quite well. Alcohol is definitely present, but not as hot as you might think given that it is 8.2% ABV.
M: Low carbonation combined with a medium body. The alcohol is present a bit in the mouth and chest as well. This said for the style it is easy to drink.
O: UpSlope Brewing Company Christmas Ale is a quite good beer. I am not totally blown away, but by it but I can tell by the taste that it has potential to develop further if cellared. I would love to try a can of this spicy Old Ale again in a year and see how its character changes over time.
