Rakesh Asthana, a Gujarat Cadre officer has now been appointed as the New Delhi Police Commissioner. It is being reported that Rakesh Asthana has been handed over the charge just 3 days prior to his retirement. It is a rare instance of Inter-Cadre deputation. Rakesh Asthana has served on several high posts across the nation and was recently involved in controversies as well. It is also being said that Rakesh Asthana has received an extension for a year. A 1984 Gujarat Cadre IPS officer, Rakesh Asthana has also served in the BSF and the Narcotics Control Bureau as well.
