#Oocyteaging refers to the natural process by which a woman's eggs age over time. This is no surprise because as we get older, the cells that are born with us also age. And this process of oocyte aging is the main cause of #infertility for women in older age brackets.
As oocytes age, they face a number of cellular changes that take away from their viability. These are negative changes such as:
DNA Damage that accumulates over time as cells become aged and defective.
Mitochondrial Dysfunction which causes a decrease in cellular energy production
And Telomere Shortening. Telomeres are the protective caps at the ends of our chromosomes.
Oocyte aging or any cell aging is associated with telomere shortening. Telomere length is correlated with the longevity of cellular life. So shortening of the telomeres essentially means cell death and death of the organism.
So basically oocyte aging at the cellular level involves a range of biological changes that affect the quality, quantity, and functionality of a woman's eggs, contributing to age-related declines in fertility and an increased risk of pregnancy-related issues.
What if we can slow down this process, and maybe reverse it a little?
Recent scientific research into anti-aging and fertility preservation shows substantial amount of evidence into the role of sirtuin activation in reversing aging at a cellular level.
Sirtuins are a group of proteins that play a crucial role in cellular health and longevity. They are involved in DNA repair, gene regulation, cellular defense and longevity. So activating the sirtuin pathway can slow down the aging process and undo some of the damage that has accumulated over time.
Clinical studies show that when animals as well as humans are supplemented with sirtuin activators, they age at a slower rate.
