On this day, August 15th, 1964, on the feast of the Assumption, the Sisters of Mary were formed in Busan, South Korea by Fr. Aloysius Schwartz. He founded the group of religious sisters to help serve the poorest of the poor in the spirit of the Gospel. Now, 60 years later, the Sisters of Mary are spread throughout the world, helping the homeless, the sick and underprivileged children in countries like Mexico, Korea and Tanzania, through their girlstown and boystown schools, which provide free education and vocational programs as well as spiritual development. Sister Margie has been with the Sisters of Mary for 40 years, caring for the most vulnerable from womb to tomb through a variety of charity programs aimed at helping those in the most impoverished regions of the world.
