A fire broke out at a building on 41 Spring Street in SoHo, New York around 6:40pm on Wednesday evening. The alleged arson is a 45-year-old tenant who lived on the second floor of the building. After he had a fight with the mother of his child, he allegedly started the fire. When the first despatch police arrived, he blocked the stairway on the second floor, refusing to let them through. A police officer's broke his hand in the confrontation. By the time when the fire department arrived, the back of the building was completely engulfed in fire, and the body of the third floor tenant, which was burned beyond recognition, was discovered at the third floor fire escape. Around 200 firefighters were dispatched to the scene and fought the fire for three hours until it was under control.
