Flock of sheep, birds chirping, cows....nature as it is. That's why I love this Urban countryside of Rome, just 10 minute walk from the subway station. Obviously there is plenty of history as well, let me show you an ancient Nymphaeum dedicated to Nymph Egeria. On this very fine November day I decided to start making videos of Rome so I grabbed my phone to start filming....forgive me for the images & audio but it was a memorable day for me.
IN THIS VIDEO:
The Caffarella park. Huge, wild park in the center of the city.
Just 10 min walk from the subway station Furio Camillo.
Animals, gorgeous views, ancient roman monuments, medieval towers.
What is a Nymphaeum? Who was Egeria?

Welcome to Rome with Humi and welcome to this gorgeous urban countryside we're not in New Zealand but look at this! just 10 minute walk from the subway station I'm at the Caffarella park, it's a 130 h 320
acres park, laying between the Ancient Appian way
and Via Latina the Latina way. Here local romans jog, do yoga, walk their dogs and just relax
Hello to the shepherd. Buongiorno!
Unlike the most Renaissance villas such as Villa Borghese or Villa Pamphili, this place is nature as it is. Spontaneous paths through fields, hills, woods, streams. However this is Rome we're talking about
so obviously there are many ancient ruins as well. Let me take you to the Nymphaeum of Egeria Nymphaeums are monuments often built where there are springs of fresh water and nymphs are the sacred maidens of nature. There are Tree nymphs, Fresh water nymphs, Mountain nymphs and so on
This Nymphaeum is dedicated to the local water nymph Egeria built in the 2nd century a.d by Herodes Atticus who owned a villa nearby. Going way back to the 8th century b.c Nymph Egeria is said to have become the wife of Numa Pompilius, the second king of Rome after Romulus according to the legends she gave many intelligent advices to the king and help him modernize Rome in the middle you can see the headless statue of Almo representing the Almone river which flows through the entire park
If you ever get tired of museums, grab a panino and come over to Caffarella another way of spending a great day in Rome. I'm going for a run now... see ya!!
