Welcome to the first edition of Gliding for 2024. Here is a littkle information about the scenes in episode #019. I hope you enjoy the film:
Scene 1 – Pink Summer Sky, Lane Cove, Sydney NSW
Summer sky sunset punctuated with drifting clouds is a prime recipe for a gorgeous sunset. Throw in some aircraft flying toward Sydney airport, Parramatta River, Gladesville Bridge and a peak at the Sydney CBD and here is a dream like sequence to enjoy. First looking west toward Parramatta and then east toward Sydney Harbour Bridge and CBD.
Soundtrack: ‘Aqua’ by Rockot.
Scene 2 – Wooloorigang \ Cremorne Point, Sydney Harbour, NSW
Cremorne Point is a harbourside suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia around six kilometres north of the Sydney CBD. Known to first nations people as Wooloorigang, European settlers renamed the landmark after the Cremorne Gardens in London. In this scene we skim low over the water before rising over the point to reveal Sydney and its famous bridge, Opera House, fort and skyline.

Scene 3 – Shelly Beach Reef, Sydney, NSW
Found on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Shelly Beach is part of a protected marine reserve found beneath its steep sandstone cliffs. The reef that has formed here attracts a large variety of marine life and is a popular spot to snorkel and scuba dive. It is also a spectacular sight to enjoy, especially from the perspective of the sky.

Scene 4 –Double Bay \ Diendagulla \ Yarranabee, Sydney, NSW
Located in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Double Bay takes it’s name from the two geographical formations between Point Piper and Darling Point, which are interrupted by a miniature point in between. It has some of the most expensive real-estate in Australia and was an area developed soon after European settlement in 1788.
The area is given two First Nations names. Diendagulla I have not been able to uncover any information about and covers the area from Point Piper past Murray Rose Pool and to Darling Point. The second – Yarranabee was cited in 1856 Yarranabee as the First Nations name Darling Point and in 1897 the first Mayor of the council of Woollahra explained it as being “the name of the old chief of the tribe of Aboriginies living here when the colony was first taken charge.”
In this sequence our flight starts at Point Piper, travels along Seven Shillings Beach and over Murray Rose Pool. We then swing around to Double Bay Beach, and above the Double Bay Wharf under renovation, before finishing along Darling Point. Watch out for the enthusiastic Magpie who joins the journey along Darling Point!!

Scene 5 – Golden Morning Rowers, Rodd Point, Parramatta River, Sydney
A favoured spot for rowers is the western side of Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Haberfield. In this sequence we join a group of rowers as they start beside Haberfield Rowers Club and slip along the Parramatta River past Rodd Island, Leichardt Park and towards Iron Cove Bridge at Drummoyne.
Soundtrack: ‘Dawn In Nature’ by Kakadu Creation.
Scene 6 – 2023 New Years Eve Fireworks, Sydney
A great way to finish 2023 and start 2024 – the Sydney Harbour fireworks. The perspective is from the north side of the city looking toward the CBD and into Darling Harbour.
