On the 4th of May, The Supreme Court heard the case that deals with the rights of sex workers. This case was originally a criminal appeal, convicting a person for a gruesome crime against a sex worker in Kolkata. The Supreme Court has since issued directions providing several rights to sex workers to avail their dignity under the right to life in Article 21. In this case, an Interim Application was filed by the Darbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, for the recognition of rights again, during the COVID Pandemic. it has since come to light that sex worker rehabilitation centres are run like prisons, much against the intention of the Laws.
