EDIT: *THIS* IS A VISCOUS COUPLER FAILURE. The viscous coupler in the center differential has failed. It is NOT a CV joint failure.
Even with over 200,000 miles when I had it replaced, all it needed was the viscous coupler (and of course new seals to replace the ones where the case was separated and the shafts were pulled out). The Drive and Driven gears, and everything else, were pristine.
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
Hey everyone, so, this is the sound my car is making. I can't actually tell what side it's from. You can feel the clunk - feels like a wheel is slipping on each clunk.
_*SYMPTOMS:*_
*Car has sat/is cooled down:*
- Nothing. Works fine.
*Car has been driven a bit:*
- clunks at slow speeds, forward or reverse, wheel turned or virtually straight.
- This applies with car in neutral (no power to the axle shafts) as well as in gear, whenever the car is rolling at slow speed.
- Not apparent or doesn't happen at higher speeds.
At over a few miles per hour through high speeds, can't feel or hear a thing.
