RUSSIAN PRESIDENT, VLADIMIR PUTIN, SAYING (SPEAKING TO U.S. MEDIA COMPANY NBC JOURNALIST):
"You, well those who pay your salaries, would like to present everything that is happening in Syria as some kind of failure, a defeat for Russia. I assure you, it is not true, and I'll tell you why. We came to Syria 10 years ago so that a terrorist enclave would not be created there like what we have seen in some other countries like in let's say, Afghanistan. Overall, we have achieved our goals, and even those groups that once fought with the Assad regime, with the government forces, they too have undergone internal changes. It is not without reason that today many European countries and the United States want to establish relations with them. If they are terrorist organisations, why are you coming there?"
"Of course, we look forward to peace in the Syrian Arab Republic. We maintain relations with all the groups that control the situation there, with all the countries in the region. The overwhelming majority of them tells us that they would be interested in us keeping our military bases in Syria. I don't know, we have to think about it, because we have to decide for ourselves how our relations develop with the political forces that now control the situation in that country now and will control it in the future."
Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed U.S. media, defending Russia's actions in Syria over the past decade. He dismissed claims of defeat, stating that Russia achieved its goals of preventing a terrorist enclave like Afghanistan. Putin highlighted ongoing relations with various Syrian groups and countries, adding that many welcome Russia’s military presence in Syria. He also mentioned plans to meet with Bashar al-Assad and discuss the case of missing U.S. reporter Austin Tice.
