In 1983, Rich Skrenta, a high school student, created the first computer virus known as "Elk Cloner." Targeting Apple II computers, Elk Cloner infected the boot sector of floppy disks. When inserted into a computer, it would replicate and display a poem, spreading to other disks. This event marked the dawn of cybersecurity awareness and antivirus development.
