Netflix is giving out Free money by partnering with Rob Liefeld's Extreme studios comic book imprint. Rob Leifeld is the co-creator of Deadpool, Cable, Domino and more for Marvel in the 1990's. He may be the most controversial figure in modern comic history with too many outlandish antics to name but he's a legend and one of the 7 co-founders of the trail blazing publisher Image Comics. Its groundbreaking in that creators actually own there intellectual property and Image only works as a distributor of there work. So people like Robert Kirkman don't work on the Walking Dead while a corporation like Disney (who owns Marvel) or WB (who owns DC) reaps all the profits for your idea and then can fire you and keep the character and all the money that character generates. Its not fair so Image got it right.
In Rob's case he owns properties such as YoungBlood, Bloodstrike, Prophet, Brigade and the Superman rip-off Supreme. Which ironically won an Eisner when it was given to Alan Moore to fix. Netflix has come knocking at the door of Rob and his extreme studios while now be developed into programs on that Netflix format. Hopefully they won't look like the 1990's version which were plagued with awful writing, virtually no character development. All of the characters were dark and gritty covert mercs with no clear motivation. They were just awful but sold a lot due to the Image hype. Now today those issues crowd $1 bins everywhere in back rooms of comic shops! So can these properties be resurrected to make great TV shows or Netflix movies? Time will tell. Just don't like Rob write them.
As for New Comic Day for March 21st the pick of the week is Weapon H #1. This spins out o the developments from The Totally Awesome Hulk #22 from the Weapon X crossover in 2017, in which a new monster that is a mash up of the Hulk meets Wolverine (yes with Adamantium claws) shows up. I was not a fan of it when it first debut last year but if you are a fan then there are 8 different covers. Expect a very high print run. Don't pay too much thinking you can flip this at a profit. Its not going to happen. Expect total saturation of this everywhere. The Runner up Iron Man in a Hong Kong adventure which blends fiction with the real life Stark Expo Center in Hong Kong Disney Land. Watch out for the character Wendy Wong, as she may prove important to the MCU in the future.
And last but not least is that Marvel is teaming up with Laurence Fishburne's Gypsy productions to do an Moon Girl animated show. I have been talking about this character for years and despite low sales Marvel keeps pushing the character of 4th grader Luana Laffayette and her Devil Dinosaur. (A Jack Kirby creation) because they need source material for the animated show. Moon Girl #1 from 2015 has become a hot book to get that you should scoop up if you find it for $20 or cheaper! Enjoy the show and as always Subscribe
