Hey everyone! Today, I tackled the 31.5km stretch from Altopascio to San Miniato on the Via Francigena. Despite starting in damp clothes from yesterday’s downpour, the trails varied from sunny spells to challenging muddy patches.
In this video, I share the ups and downs of the day, including the stunning views and the rough terrain, all captured in brilliant 4K. Today, we woke up and put on damp clothes. Anything wet from the rain the previous day, I hung on my backpack, hoping the day would have good weather and things would dry out. I felt like a real pilgrim, with my underwear and socks flapping in the wind as I walked.
The weather was overcast when we started, and we mostly had a rain-free day except for a bit of rain in the afternoon just before Fucecchio. The trial was mostly off-road, in forests, and beautiful. But there was a lot of mud underfoot from the heavy rain the day before. This made it fairly tough to go in some places. Amanda's wet phone refused to reveal any screen.
We had a good lunch in Fucecchio. There is an amazing restaurant just as you enter the town. The climb up to San Miniato takes your breath away, but so does this beautiful town perched on top of a hill.
