WHO ARE WE?
The Centre for the Study of Animal Welfare (CCSAW) was established in 1989, and was the first of its kind in North America and the second of its kind in the world. In 1996, the Centre was renamed the Colonel K.L. Campbell Centre for the Study of Animal Welfare in recognition of the commitment and support of Mrs. Mona Campbell, the widow of the late Colonel Campbell.
Since that time, we have grown tremendously from a group of 4 core faculty in the early days to 14 core faculty members, plus Associated Faculty and research across colleges who collectively advise nearly sixty graduate students completing Masters or Doctoral degrees on animal welfare topics at any given time.
The Campbell Centre's objectives fall into three broad categories, research, education and outreach, which align with our mission. In support of this purpose, CCSAW is responsible for raising and allocating funds to build a network for collaboration that supports scholarly animal welfare activities across the University of Guelph.
