A third Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine shot are given to people aged over 60.
The president was the first to receive one on Friday.
He urged seniors to get their third shots to help contain the spread of the Delta variant.
Japan has approved the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for people aged 40 or older.
The country's health ministry granted fast-track approval in May... but paused the inoculation for a few months due to fears of potential side effects.
