In this edition of Tarikh, Divyanshi Talks about King Dahir, the last defender of Sindh against the Arab invasion in the 7th century. King Dahir was a brave and powerful ruler who fought fiercely to protect his kingdom from the invading Arab army led by the Islamic general Muhammad bin Qasim.
In 711 CE his kingdom was invaded by the Umayyad Caliphate led by Muhammad bin Qasim where Dahir died while defending his kingdom. According to the Chachnama, the Umayyad campaign against Arori Raja Dahir was due to a pirate raid off the coast of the Sindhi coast that resulted in gifts to the Umayyad caliph from the king of Serendib being stolen. We explore the background of the conflict between the Arab and Sindhi kingdoms, the military tactics employed by both sides, and the fateful battle that ultimately led to the downfall of King Dahir's kingdom.
