Sometimes, people in their 30s,40s, and 50s often come wondering why they have acne at this age when it is supposed to be a teenage issue. You know a study in 2013 showed that about 43% of the females developed acne in their 30s, about 15 to 20% of females developed acne in their 40s and 50s and about 7 to 12% of males developed acne in their 40s and 50s.
Adult acne occurs due to hormonal imbalance, a poor lifestyle which includes bad eating habits, late nights, and of course stress. Adult acne is usually seen as cysts and nodules along the jawline and chin. But one may have lesions on the rest of the face and trunk too. Medicines like corticosteroids both taken orally or applied on the skin, can result in acne.
Those with acne must avoid milk, sugar, and food with a high glycaemic index. Avoid using oils or thick creams or cosmetics which could clog pores. Lead a healthy lifestyle. Avoid picking at the acne. Use a salicylic acid-based face wash at least once a day to unclog pores. Consult a dermatologist.
