I planed to be in Chiang Mai for this event.. when I heard about it I knew I HAD TO EXPERIENCE this:) I love water and water fights and especially when it's really hot and I loved this. It is seriously one of the funniest things I have ever tried:)
Songkran is the name of the Thai new year which also marks the end of the dry season. This is celebrated all over the country with huge street water fights.
Song Kran takes place every year from April 13th- 15th, and originally started as a cleansing ritual.. which has since then gotten a bit out of control:)
Every one participates; young and old, natives and travellers. Whole families load up on trucks with buckets filled with ice water, and don't spare any one who walks by.
The Songkran water fight in Chiang Mai is known to last a few days longer and be a bit more extensive than any where alse in Thailand.. maybe due to the large number of students in the area looking for a good time:)
