Carbon combines technical track, stunning scenery, steep climbs, and solitude all easily accessible from the Town of Crested Butte. Access it as part of a loop with Baxter Gulch and Green Lake or ride it on its own to Ohio Pass in the West Elk Wilderness. This trail is 5.5-miles long and rated difficult. It is wide and loose and rocky, so you might have to hike-a-bike some and make sure to take extra care on the bumpy downhills. Named after the coal mining history found along its track, this trail is beautiful and definitely a must-ride, despite its challenges.
The mountain biking in Crested Butte and the Gunnison Valley is unparalleled. The vast trail system features 150-plus trails spanning over 750 miles, and includes mellow rides for beginners as well as the gnarliest, most adventurous singletrack you'll ever encounter.
