6/9 chords are a regular feature of swing era guitar playing. They sound super mellow and sweet and have bags of character. In this jazz guitar lesson I cover the 6/9 shapes on the guitar and show you how and where to play them. There's not too many of these to learn but they are great chords to know.
A 6/9 chord contains a root, major 3rd, perfect 5th, major 6th and 9th. That's a lot of notes for one chord, which means they aren't the easiest to play!
As I said, you find them more in the swing era. Later on in the genre of jazz you typically find major chords played as major 7s rather the 6/9 or just major 6 chord.
