(9 Mar 2022) Residents living on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv continued to flee areas experiencing fighting and shelling on Wednesday.
There was little Russian shelling reported in the area to the northwest of Kyiv on Wednesday morning, with civilians taking the chance to leave their homes and head elsewhere in the hope of safety.
The internally displaced crossed over a small river via a damaged bridge between the outlying district of Irpin and Kyiv city.
The bridge area has come under sporadic mortar fire in recent days, with civilians killed.
Thousands have entered Kyiv in recent days, with many then taken via minivan to the railway station for onward evacuation by train to Ukraine's west.
