The gender wage gap women are paid less than men at every education level but that gender gap increases at the higher education levels And so just in our own profession just in the law The impact of the winner-take-all economy has been that in 8 percent of the highest paid earners at law firms were women instead of increasing today it's gone down So it's only 2 percent of the top earners at law firms are women And in this era of increasing gender equality allegedly That's what we think the winner-take-all economy explains why this is happening

Naomi Cahn is the Justice Anthony M. Kennedy Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law, as well as the Co-Director of the Family Law Center. Cahn is the author or editor of numerous books written for both academic and trade publishers, including Red Families v. Blue Families and Homeward Bound. In 2017, Cahn received the Harry Krause Lifetime Achievement in Family Law Award from the University of Illinois College of Law and in 2024 she was inducted into the Clayton Alumni Hall of Fame.
