German story - German intertitles. An "Ufa-Wochenschau" film. First title reads: "Ferngas-Versorgung. Ein ununterbrochenes Ferngasrohr wird zur Zelt von Essen nach Hannover verlegt."
L/S of landscape, camera pans to show men standing behind long line of pipe. L/S of the pipeline. M/S of man standing beside a piece of pipe, he appears to be welding a join. Various shots of men moving the pipes and securing the joins. L/S of machine being used to dig a trench for the pipe. Man sits on side of this mechanical digger. Intertitle reads: "Vor Verlegung der einzelnen Rohren wird die Rohre mit Hilfe des "Bürstenhundes" gereinigt." A man encourages a dog to jump up and into the pipe. The dog has a string or wire or cable attached and it walks through the pipe emerging at the other end. A brush is then pulled through the pipe - presumably to clean it. Various shots of men at work on the pipeline. A man stands on top of the pipe as it is lowered into the trench.
Note: it isn't clear what the pipes are for. If anyone speaks German and it is mentioned in the intertitles perhaps they could let us know...
