Nellie Casman acted and sang in Yiddish theater. Born in Russia in the 1890s, she moved to the United States in the early 1900s. In 1913, Casman married playwright Samuel Steinberg and they collaborated in writing songs and shows, including 'Yossel, Yossel' in 1923. She recorded over 60 songs for Emerson, Columbia, Victor and Pathé between 1923 and 1927. She passed away in NYC in 1984.
