We're interrupting with breaking news from Damascus. Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps is now claiming that several of its top commanders were killed in the Israeli airstrike that targeted the Iranian embassy compound in the Syrian capital overnight.

In a statement, the IRGC said the strike killed one of its brigadier generals who was based in Syria, along with several other senior officers. It warned of a "crushing" response against what it called the "Zionist crime."

If confirmed, the deaths of senior Iranian commanders would mark a significant escalation from this already high-stakes Israeli attack. It underscores the extent of Iran's military involvement and entrenchment in Syria in support of the Assad regime.
