A short report by Cambridge TV on the success of the Stagecoach East Route R bus service that operates between Trumpington Park & Ride and Cambridge Rail Station. The video features interviews by reporter Jack Maclaren of Alex Plant (Chair of Cambridge Ahead Transport Project), Andy Campbell (MD of Stagecoach East), and Bob Menzies (Service Director Strategy and Development at Cambridgeshire County Council).
Launched in April 2015, the service has just exceeded its target of 1,500 passengers a week, and has made a real difference to the commute of many people from South Cambridge into the city. Costing only £3.20 return (plus £1 parking charge at the P&R), this new route is a qualified success. The idea originated from Cambridge Ahead, the business and academic member organisation, which worked with Stagecoach and the County Council to make it a reality.
The journey takes only 5 mins and covers a distance of 2 miles, solely along the Guided Busway. As such it avoids the congested roads thus guaranteeing arrival times in the station area. For more news and content watch Cambridge TV On Demand at www.cambridge-tv.co.uk/demand
