In this video, I show you how to solid shade overtone dye yarn. The best candidates for over dyeing are lighter shades, if a skein is near black saturation of any color, you won't be able to shift it that much. Basic color theory applies: I used yellow and blue dye because it would compliment the green base. If you had yellow yarn, purple would be a poor choice (unless you like surprise brown colors) same with orange and green etc.
Dyes used are acid reactive from Pro-Chem and Dharma.
I think it's a lot of fun to go stash diving and pull out those gift skeins that aren't you, those early enthusiastic purchases you no longer love, the "WTF is this" club memberships you know you'll never knit, and play with dye over the top. Always cut yourself a few yards and do a test batch if you're worried your color choice might result in something even uglier.
