In my opinion LOL Surprise OMG dolls are the best playline high fashion dolls on the market for kids/collectors presently. In this video I open Series 2 LOL OMG doll Candylicious and LOL OMG Lights Groovy Babe. Both are my favourite dolls from the current lines in New Zealand and both do not disappoint.
Pastel rainbow colours for Candy and black/white shades for Groovy put the dolls on complete opposite sides of the colour spectrum but oh my lord are they awesome.
As a doll collector I can't fault this line, even at its higher price tag of NZ$50 they just have everything and a bit more that you would want and expect from a higher end playline doll. A non-articulated Barbie doll with a few animal accessories sits at around NZ$40 new so for $10 more you can pick up a doll with a lot more fashion accessories, gorgeous packaging, fantastic clothing and articulation. Honestly I don't know why Barbie isn't answer this call to step it up. Bring back My Scene and start some competition Mattel!? I can't help but think that Mattel maintaining Barbies 'good girl' vibes is hurting their potential income off dolls. Barbie stepped up in the 1980s and early 90s to take on new fashions and ideas, why her only answer to 2000s is very mum-safe-choice fashionistas is beyond me. The dolls might offer variety but they don't offer the extras a collector is truly hoping for - a funky poseable doll with a little bit of edge that kids crave nowdays. The reason LOL Surpise excells is it saw what Bratz did, a little bit of spice that kids want to be cool (and mums buy them because kids want them).
I'm not hating on Barbie at all, I love her but do feel she is being overshadowed by companies willing to push the bar into the future and allow girls to be confident and adventurous in themselves and their fashion.
Anyways a little bit of a ramble from mum there! Hope you enjoyed the video, hope you love the dolls. Keep on trucking!
Vrooooooooooooooooooooooooom,
Mum Lisa.
