The Nike Metcon 5 is here! This is the Mat Fraser edition - a limited edition that is already sold out. But don't worry there are other styles available now on Nike Plus, and the shoes will be at many retailers on July 8th.
What's new in the Nike Metcon 5?
The Rope Wrap is back - and bigger than ever - that's to help you rope climb.
The low-drag heel clip is still in place - this makes this a great shoe for HSPUs - Hand stand pushups.
The dual-density drop-in midsole makes a return - with improvements. It's got cushioning in the forefoot, but is firm in the heel - which makes these great for many things.
These are the QUIETEST metcon shoes yet - they don't have the "metcon squeak" that the Nike Metcon 4s and 3s do. (We demonstrate this in the video).
How does it compare to the other CrossFit training shoe that's new for 2019?
Very well.
The Reebok Nano 9 is also a great shoe - you can lift weights, run, jump, and more.
But the Metcon 5 has the better rope wrap, and more forefoot flexibility.
Both are great for lifting weights - because they both have a low "offset" or "heel to toe drop" of only 4mm.
They are great for squats, deadlifts, cleans, and more.
The Nike though has "hyperlifts" - these are 8mm heel raise inserts (6mm for Women) that add heel raise when you want it.
Nike recommends those for high rep squats, wall balls, and similar exercises.
The Reebok Nano 9 has a very wide toe box, just like the Nano 8 did.
It's wider than the Nike Metcon 5, and many people love it for that reason.
Overall, I think you'd be pleased with either one of these shoes. They are both really great.
