Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held their first phone conversation since December 2022.
The Kremlin said the two leaders had a "detailed and frank exchange of views" on Ukraine in what reports said was an hour-long call. Putin stressed that any peace deal must address Russia’s security interests and must take into factor "new territorial realities", the Kremlin said. Scholz "condemned Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and called on Putin to end it and withdraw troops", his spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said.
